The community of Rancho Santa Fe is well-known for its impactful philanthropy.  Every month presents both new and annual fundraisers, spectacular galas and creative events, all of which are held to raise awareness and funds for charitable organizations and meaningful causes.  Th SEAL-NSW fundraiser is no different.

Founded in 2008, the SEAL-NSW Family Foundation supports Navy SEALs and their families through a variety of programs. Their motto, after all, is “taking care of their family while they protect ours.”  Said executive director Bill Fenick, “There’s a lot of great programs already in existence. We work in complementing where there might be gaps.”

Last year, the Foundation spent $2.4 million on a variety of support programs and organizations.  NSWKids was one such program. An affiliated nonprofit, NSWKids provides educational diagnostic testing and tutoring to families within the NSW family.

Other Foundation programs include family services, emergency assistance, transition assistance, bereavement support and remembrance support.

“The Del Mar Country Club is honored to host the SEAL-NSW Family Foundation again this year,” said foundation board member Dominique Plewes.  Plewes is co-chairing the event with her mother, philanthropist Madeleine Pickens, for the second consecutive year.

The fundraiser is expected to bring in 400 guests.  It will begin with a scramble golf tournament, followed by a cocktail reception, live and silent auctions and dinner and entertainment.  Michael Hayden, a retired four-star general who has served as the director for the CIA and NSA will be the keynote speaker.

Last year’s fundraiser attracted about 400 guests and raised more than $1.3 million.

“You can’t do enough to help these families,” said Plewes.  For Plewes, the cause is close to her heart.  Her father, Robert Richter, served in the Navy during the Vietnam War.  “If anyone can give back, they should. The Navy SEALs and their families deserve it more than anything.”
