What do you love about your home?

First and foremost, our home is safe and secure—which is meaningful to our family.  The private custom gate we added and gave the property an “anchor” that differentiates our house from others.  The style was inspired by the $10M Roxbury estates down the street and complements our Mediterranean feel.  There were 4 key elements that intrigued us as buyers and continue to be enjoyed.   One is the large master bath for the woman of the house.  We wanted our retreat to be spacious and enjoyable so that the woman of the house could get ready, relax or just have her “spa day” in her exclusive room independently.  Two, we love the indoor outdoor feel.  The Family Room beautifully flows out to the pool and provides the classic San Diego “indoor outdoor feel” we all strive for.  French doors open to an expansive view and walking spaces so mingling indoors with gentle ocean breezes or outdoors under cover with therapeutic California sun.  The third discerning attribute is the view.  It is a one of a kind and is the only view without ridge houses!  All of the other homes on our street have some views of houses across the valley.  We are the ONLY house that has a natural ridge line that will be unobstructed forever.  We co-own with the other few properties in the HOA a 20 acre park below and the hill and ridge is undevelopable.  So where else in SD do you get a view like ours? Four–The kitchen location as it relates to the backyard.  My wife wanted this feature so that she could see the kids playing or swimming while in the kitchen.  It allows for great entertaining as well as the practical safety of the kids/Mom relationship that was important to us.

What do you like about the neighborhood?

Poco Lago is a quiet street with a dead end.  No thru traffic comes by.  The end result is an area that is very quiet and safe. Also, everyone is very friendly and waves and says hello.  We have relaxed HOA meetings twice a year and we congregate at the park below on lawn chairs and have our meetings often sharing our favorite appetizers & wines.

What are your favorite local activities, events, restaurants, or attractions?

We enjoy cycling.  Rancho Santa Fe has great routes and we can pick up all of our gear at Ranch Cycles which is a short hop away.  Del Rayo Village provides our Post Office, A great Farmer’s Market, and a regular car show at Rancho Santa Fe Autos.  Our kids love to eat at Leucadia Pizza for a relaxed atmosphere or when we are craving a more sophisticated vibe Dolce is the spot.  After kids soccer, baseball, any sports we go to Flower Hill which offers numerous options including Whole Foods, Burger Lounge, Milton’s, Starbucks, and Cucina Enoteca.  Also, the convenient Polo/soccer fields are where the famous SURF soccer team practices and plays.  There is a convenient Horse park nearby for all of our equestrian shows and Mary’s Tack & Feed offers everything we need for the horses.  Whether you are an equestrian or like to watch amateur and top shows, it is very convenient.  Finally, you have the famous Del Mar Race Track, opening day at the races, Kaaboo concert series, Country Western concerts, the State Fair etc. all with-in 15 minutes of your house.  Lastly, the most famous beaches in the world: Del Mar, Solana Beach, Encinitas and the local fun spot, dog beach!!

Since acquiring your home, what custom features have you added?

We installed an Old world elegant gate and flagstone entrance with side gate for walking in/out.  Stained concrete, flagstone pergolas, circle around palm, planter pilasters.  Old world urns and Italian cypress trees along the circle drive, matching gates at Western entrance and eastern entrance.  Storage unit, planters and flowers in windows and on balconies, Ivy to grow up walls to give it that Tuscan feel.  Scrolled Door and matching entrance scrolls and hanging objects de art to tie in architecture.  Large Koi pond and professional equipment, the outdoor room and patio add on, the flagstone around pool, the two decks and putting green.  Artificial turf and state of the art solar farm.  The turf we chose is for practicing soccer and other grass sports that needs a toughness of field that can take practicing and cleats.  Obviously the other reason for Turf and solar is getting off the grid for investment purposes.  We made the decision to reduce operating costs while going green.  We covered the boarder CMU wall with flag stone to match the colors and feel with the front and back and added color to a bland wall.  With the contrast of the bougainvillea it has a much more elegant feel than a traditional plain wall.  We added the outdoor two sided fireplace and new barbeque for everyday outdoor eating breakfast though dinner with a nice glow of the fire for after dinner drinks.

What keywords would best describe your home?

Views, views, views!!!  Vanishing edge pool, manicured landscaping, old world charm from our visits to Spain and Italy, serenity, elegant and opulent,  5 star resort feel, safe, fun, (back yard and park to yourselves) , indoor outdoor living.  Secluded, yet close.  One of a kind ridge line with zero development in view.   Ocean breezes that keep it cool all year round, south facing back yard for maximum sun and max solar efficiency.
